Turtle Talks with Emiliana
Empowering Kids to Protect the Oceans with a Real Young Author
If your students love ocean animals, creative stories, or meeting real young authors, they’ll love Turtle Talks with Emiliana!
Since 2024, Emiliana has been visiting South Florida schools and Girl Scout troops, sharing her book Anatomy Under the Sea: The Adventures of Luna the Loggerhead and inspiring kids to follow their curiosity - no matter how young they are!
Dive Into Learning
It all started when Emiliana wanted to “see inside” a sea turtle. When she couldn’t find a book that explained a Loggerhead’s internal anatomy for kids, she decided to write one herself! With illustrations by a talented artist Jess Burbank, this rhyming story brings science and imagination together as Luna the Loggerhead explores the ocean and compares her anatomy to other sea creatures.
During her Turtle Talks, Emiliana reads her book, shares her turtle model with a removable shell, and chats with students about what it’s like to write and publish a real book — all before turning 10!
What to Expect
Each Turtle Talk lasts about 30–45 minutes and includes:
A lively reading of Anatomy Under the Sea
A hands-on demo of Luna’s internal anatomy
Fun turtle worksheets and coloring pages
A peek into Emiliana’s writing and publishing journey
Q&A time — kids love asking how she did it!
Optional book signing and meet & greet
She’s most comfortable with groups of up to 50 students, so everyone gets a chance to participate and ask questions.

About Emiliana
As a proud Hispanic author, Emiliana hopes to inspire other young readers to follow their curiosity and share their voices, too. She’s the 2025 Wavemakers Competition winner and a 2025 Go Blue Awards finalist from Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Her work has been recognized by leading ocean advocates, including Dr. Sylvia Earle, who praised her book during the Wavemakers judging. Her publisher, Orange Hat Publishing, has submitted her book to the Library of Congress and it’s currently in the peer review process.
When she’s not writing or giving talks, Emiliana loves exploring South Florida’s beaches, collecting seashells, and dreaming up her next adventure under the sea.
